The results of 4,280 candidates who sat for the 2023 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have been withheld, an official statement from the supervising body said.

A total of 448,674 candidates, made up of 212,453 males and 236,221 females from 975 schools entered the examination.

A statement released by WAEC on Monday, December 18, 2023 said, “The results of 4,878 candidates have been blocked for failing to return learning support materials supplied to them by their schools. Such candidates are to contact their schools.

“Also, the subject results of 3,647 candidates have been canceled for taking foreign materials into the examination hall”, the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) announced.

The foreign materials included prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material.

The examination body has also cancelled the entire results of 839 candidates for sending mobile phones to the examination halls.

Some subject results of candidates from 235 schools have further been withheld for collusion and the use of artificial intelligence-generated answers.
