The Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary for National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baah Acheamfour has refuted the claims that the Asantes in the party have been marginalized.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, 04 March 2024, he explained that the party has always championed the interests of all tribes insisting his Asante background has never been used against him in any elections in the party.

“Never, it was never true, they never used my Asante roots against me. If there was anything that was used against me, it was my political background. It was never the fact that I was an Asante,” he told host, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.

He added that he was surprised when the NDC despite claims that they are anti-Asantes still chose to elect him as an executive.

“I should have been the victim, if they said Asantes are going to have a problem in NDC, I would have gotten two problems, because I am an Asante and I also moved from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to NDC. If there was a person to punish during election, I should have been the victim. I contested an Ewe, I contested a Northerner, two Northerners, but I still won. This shows they see the quality in you and they give you the opportunity,” he added.

Baah Acheamfour therefore called on Ghanaian voters never to believe the claim that the NDC is always an anti-Asante.
