Ejisu By-election set for April 30

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the by-election for the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region would be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

The MP for the constituency, John Kumah died on March 7, after a short illness and this has left the seat vacant hence the by-election.

Nine persons who picked forms to contest the NPP primary have all been cleared to contest the party’s parliamentary primary scheduled for Saturday, April 13.

Nine cleared to contest NPP Ejisu Constituency by-election

The EC announced in a statement that “in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Commission will hold a By-Election in the Constituency on Tuesday, the 30th of April, 2024.”

“Accordingly, the Commission will receive Nominations from prospective Candidates for the Election of a Member of Parliament for the said Constituency. The Nominations will be received at the Ejisu District Office of the Commission from 16th April, 2024 to 18th April, 2024 between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day.

Interested candidates are required to download the Nomination Forms from the Commission’s website (www.ec.gov.gh) from 9th April, 2024 to 18th April, 2024.”

The statement added that the Nomination Forms for each candidate shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of two registered voters as “Proposer and Seconder and supported by eighteen other registered voters in the Constituency as assenting to the Nominations.”

“The filing fee for the election is Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH1O,OOO.OO) per candidate,” the EC stated.
