The Chief and Elders of Twifo Cocoa Ase in the Twifo Ati-Morkwa District of the Central Region, have embarked on a search for a 37-year-old man who allegedly jumped into the River Pra to commit suicide.

Angelonline.com.gh sources indicate that the incident occurred on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Twifo Cocoa Ase, in an attempt by the victim to end his life.

Barely 72 hours after the incident, all efforts by members of the community in search of the man, Kwame Adomako popularly known as Rasta have yielded no positive results.

Though it remained unclear what necessitated his action, it is rumoured in the community that his decision was born out of an alleged broken heart.

The development has prompted the chiefs of the area to perform rituals and poured libation, calling on the gods of the land to intervene in their search for the said man, dead or alive.

“Some residents alleged that Kwame Adomako had settled with the lady in Twifo Cocoa Ase as his girlfriend having relocated from the Eastern Region.

“However, she has ditched him for another man in the same community. So we believe that might’ve had an impact on him leading to his alleged suicidal action,” Angel FM’s Kwame Asante Shadrack reported.

Speaking to our reporter after performing the rituals, the Adontenhene of Twifo Darmang, Nana Kwasi Badu disclosed that prior to the the man reportedly handed himself to the police in the area asking them lock him up but officers on duty didn’t take it serious.

“The police believed the victim had not committed any crime to keep him in the police cells so they refused to accept his plea which he left. So it was after leaving the police station that he went to throw himself into the river around 8:00 PM,” Nana Kwasi Badu alleged.

The Assembly member for Cocoa Ase Electoral Area, Daniel Afriyie confirmed the incident and indicated that although it is rumoured that the victim committed the act out of a broken heart, they have opened up an investigation into the incident.

All efforts in an attempt to speak to the police command of the area have proven futile at the time of filing this report.
