Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Asamoah Gyan, has laid emphasis on the long-term benefits his recently launched ‘All Regional Games’ competition will bring to the West African country.

The former Black Stars goal monger, Asamoah Gyan hinted that the introduction of the competition seeks to harness talents for Ghana in nine sports disciplines including football, table tennis, and volleyball.

Speaking on Angel TV’s Sports Live on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, “Baby Jet” affectionately called in the football cycles said his multi-sport competition will unearth more talents for the country.

According to him, beyond the talent naturing, Ghana will be made competitive in sporting events at the international level.

“For all these years, this has been in my plans, recalling that even while playing as an active footballer I was a boxing promoter and people were skeptical about my decision. But I want people to understand that though I was a footballer, the question we should ask is what happens to the other sporting disciplines?

So, for me, it is not about football entirely as I also want to help nurture talents for the other disciplines so that when we compete at the Olympic Games and other international competitions, we can present competitive teams who will perform and performed well in other sporting disciplines,” he told Darius Osei Ember.

Gyan emphasised indicating that “whether you like it or not football is the passion of the nation all due respect to the other sporting disciplines in the country, but we are looking beyond football.”

Thus, the All-Time Black Stars goal scorer said his camp has decided to keenly develop the Sports fraternity at large in the country to ensure Ghana’s lost glory globally in other sporting events is redeemed.
