A determined Accra Hearts of Oak side bounced back from their back-to-back defeats, thanks to a crucial 3-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.

The game played in Berekum on Wednesday afternoon was an outstanding match of the Matchday 29 fixtures of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

Both sides were aiming to take massive steps towards a top-four finish on the league table at the end of the ongoing season.

With few chances created in the first half, it was Accra Hearts of Oak who had the decisive moment in the 20th-minute courtesy of a goal through Hamza Issah. It was his 12th goal of the season in the top-flight football.

Back from recess, DR. Congo International, Linda Mtange doubled the lead for the Phobians in the 59th minute to unsettle the home team.

Berekum Chelsea pushed more men forward for a response, however, Hearts once more extended their lead with a Kassim Cisse third goal in the 83rd minute to deepen their woes.

The match ended 3-0 in Accra Hearts of Oak’s favor to end their two-game winless run following back-to-back defeats to Legon Cities and Accra Lions.

The defeat of Berekum Chelsea also means they have lost their last two matches – against Legon Cities (Away) and Hearts of Oak (Home).

Berekum Chelsea despite the defeat is 8th on the league table with 41 points while Hearts of Oak occupied the 11th position with 38th points.

The Blues will host Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Berekum in their next fixture on May 18, 2024, with the Phobians hosting Aduana Stars in Accra.
