Tension is brewing at Adansi Praso in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, following a clash between the residents and officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The conflict began when the ECG disconnected the entire community from the National Grid, citing a misunderstanding as the cause.

Mr. Ramadan Abdul Muein, Manager of ECG at New Edubiase, stated that the disconnection was a response to threats and verbal assaults directed at ECG staff during a visit to the community for bill collection and disconnections.

Nana Kwame Agyemang Pemsan, the Chief of the area, condemned the ECG’s actions, calling them disrespectful and an act of impunity. He explained that the community had repeatedly reported issues with fallen poles and loose cables, which posed significant dangers to residents, but their concerns were ignored.

In an attempt to address these safety concerns, some committee members confronted ECG officials, leading to a heated exchange. This altercation resulted in the ECG’s decision to disconnect the entire community from the national grid as a punitive measure for the alleged attack on their staff.

Nana Pemsan narrated the hardships his people are enduring due to the disconnection, emphasizing the significant impact on local businesses such as cold stores, sawmills, hairdressers, schools, and washing bays.

Business owners shared their ordeal with Angel News’ Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, highlighting the severe disruption to their operations caused by the power cut.

The Assemblymember of the area, Nana Osei Okogyeaman I, who also serves as the Gyasehene of Adansi Praso, urged the ECG Management to urgently reconnect the community to the grid to ensure safety and security.

He stressed that proper lighting is crucial to deter criminal activities and called for the replacement of the broken poles
