A military officer who is believed to be an officer from Tarkwa- Aboso military quarters in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Timothy Adzakosi has allegedly been butchered at a galamsey site at Wassa Akyempim in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.
According to some residents who anonymously spoke with Angel News reporter, Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, the incident happened after the officer visited the site with three other colleagues.
The residents who could not immediately tell the relationship between the military officer and the illegal miners told our reporter that the military guys were heavily chased from the galamsey site to a fuel filing station at Wassa Akyempim where they butchered him in the head.
Attempts to block the residents from further causing injuries to the his head led him to sustain serious injuries to the hand which he used to block the machete attack.
The residents who pleaded anonymity further revealed that these military officers regularly visit the various galamsey sites in Wassa East district; they however did not know the reason for the visitations.
The victim’s colleagues, who were alarmed at the mayhem visited on the military man took to their heels upon seeing their colleague being attacked. The identities of the three escapee officers also remain unknown.
The timely intervention of the Assembly man for Wassa Akyempim electoral area, Joseph Akomiah and his Unit Community Chairman, Agogo, helped saved the situation. The two took the helpless military officer who was in a pool of blood to Wassa Ateiku Health Center for emergency medical treatment.
A report was launched with the Wassa East District Police command which has since launched investigations into the matter.
