In a pivotal moment leading up to the December elections, former President John Dramani Mahama addresses the nation at the July Media Encounter.

Speaking to a room full of media professionals and millions of viewers across Ghana and the world, Mahama passionately outlined his vision for a transformative change in governance, job creation, and economic revival.

“Thank you, Joyce. Good evening to my colleagues in the field of media and communications, and to the millions watching and listening from across our country and the world. We are at a crucial moment in our nation’s history—with 153 days to the next presidential and parliamentary elections,” Mahama began, highlighting the urgency of the upcoming elections.

Mahama criticized the current administration, led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, for what he described as economic mismanagement that has led to unprecedented levels of poverty, unemployment, and social inequality. “The current economic mess sums up the verdict on this NPP government,” he stated.

Emphasizing his experience and visionary leadership, Mahama presented a five-point plan to reset Ghana’s economy, focusing on sustainable development, job creation, social justice, and national unity. He introduced the concept of a “24-hour economy” aimed at boosting productivity, creating jobs, and making Ghana a hub for business and exports.

Mahama also pledged to run a lean government of no more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers, contrasting it with the current administration’s larger size. He committed to fighting corruption and ensuring transparency and accountability in government procurement processes.
