Former President John Dramani Mahama has outlined his vision for Ghanaian farmers and agribusinesses in the country.

During his #Mahama4Change2024 tour of the Upper East Region, the NDC Flagbearer noted that his policies aim to strengthen the agricultural sector and enhance food security across the nation.

Mr Mahama on the campaign tour announced plans to establish special agro-industrial zones in all sixteen regions.

“This will boost exports and reduce our reliance on raw material imports, ultimately strengthening our economy,” he said.

Additionally, he proposed the creation of nationwide farmer service centres to provide farmers with the technology, equipment, inputs, and opportunities needed to improve food security.

“By promoting advanced farming techniques and digital tools and the formation of strong farmer cooperatives, we aim to empower our agricultural community and inspire a culture of success and innovation,” he said.

“Finally, we will launch a programme inspired by the successful ‘Operation Feed Yourself and Industries’ initiative of the early 1970s. This programme will focus on making Ghana self-sufficient in basic staples, significantly reducing unnecessary imports, and ensuring that our people have access to affordable and nutritious food, thereby securing our food supply.”

“As I have stated on my rounds and during engagements with the chiefs and religious leaders, when we vote for the badly needed change in the December election, Naana Jane and I will lead a government that will work with you, the people of Ghana, to build a more prosperous and food-secure future for Ghana.”

“My call to action is to vote for John Mahama on 7th December to work towards a thriving agricultural sector that benefits farmers and consumers. #LetsBuildGhanaTogether #Mahama4Change2024 #AgricultureForAll,” Mr Mahama wrote on his X page after his tour of the Upper East Region.
