A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Eric Okyei hasurged the public to looked beyond partisan politics in the fight against illlegal mining in the country.

Mr. Okyei said the fight against the practice also known as galamsey should not be politicized as issues of the environment are very sensitive and important.

He added that regardless of party affiliation and class, it should be treated with the seriousness it deserves because, its implications on the water bodies, coupled with the deforestation and soil deterioration is a threat to the nation.

“Galamsey, which is the unlawful small-scale mining in the country has serious environmental implications, including water pollution, deforestation and soil deterioration [and so] the galamsey (illegal mining) fight should be non-partisan rather than involving political parties,” he said on the Angel Morning Show on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

This approach, notes, will ensure that “efforts to combat galamsey are driven by environmental concerns and the wellbeing of the country instead of political considerations.”
