A former member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Owusu, confessed that his decision to renounce his affiliation with the elephant family did not come by easily.

The now Senior Communications Team Member of the Movement for Change said the difficulty in his decision was due to his deep love for the NPP at the time.

Mr. Owusu’s resignation from the NPP comes after his boss Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen had ditched the party somewhere in 2023 to contest the 2024 elections as an Independent Presidential Candidate.

But, after years of making such bold decisions, the vibrant political commentator says he had to endure the aftermath of his decision for the betterment of the country.

“I overheard a caller crying and complaining bitterly during the phone-in segment of the Angel Morning Show (AMS) about the over-billing of her electricity bills. She declared that she won’t partake in this year’s elections as a result.

Yes, I understand her frustration because she is an Asante and an NPP fanatic so going to the polls to vote against the NPP would be very difficult for her,” he said on the Angel Morning Show, Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Mr. Owusu who admitted to the callers’ frustration indicated that saying goodbye to something you are committed to is one of the toughest decisions which can be compared to his political career.

“Look, when I decided to quit the NPP, it was one of the very difficult decisions which were accompanied by some kind of pains because it was a party we sacrificed our blood for,” he added.

According to Solomon Owusu, despite the consequences of his decision, he had to choose between being nationalistic and partisanship.

“…But there came the time I had to choose between Ghana and political party.”
