The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, commonly known as Nana B, has publicly criticized the actions and inactions of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, suggesting that Bagbin will be remembered as the worst Speaker in Ghana has ever had.

According to him, Bagbin remains the only Speaker in recent times whose decisions have ended up in court, a situation he said raises concerns about Bagbin’s leadership under the 8th Parliament.

His criticism stems from the Supreme Court’s declaration that Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of four seats as vacant is ‘unconstitutional’.

The Supreme Court which was presided by the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo made the pronouncement through a 5-2 decision on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision on Angel Morning Show, Nana B said Ghanaians, particularly members of the NPP, have been vindicated because they knew the Speaker’s ruling was not going to stand.

“Yes, we said it already. Bagbin will go down as the worst speaker in the history of Ghana,” he told host, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

He explained that the Speaker’s ruling “was completely unnecessary, and that is why he has brought all these controversies upon himself and cannot understand it.”

Nana B stated that the Supreme Court’s ruling has exposed the Speaker significantly.

“This is disgraceful. For Christ’s sake, since you started following Ghana’s politics, can you recall an instance where the Speaker has been taken to court following a declaration? Even if there’s a precedent, it would be a long time ago, but in recent times, I can’t remember…for the Supreme Court to overturn your decision, Speaker Bagbin, and deem it unconstitutional, does not reflect well on him as it undermines his integrity,” he said.
