On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says that 2009 to 2012 was Ghana’s most prosperous period.

He asserts that the NDC government enhanced Ghana’s GDP by 8% in 2010 in an interview on Nhyira FM.

“In 2010, Ghana’s economy grew by 8% prior to oil production”, he stated.

He claims that the introduction of oil production in 2011 resulted in a 14.4% gain.

“In 2011, the introduction of oil production led to a 14.4% boost in growth”, he said.

According to him, Ghana’s economic growth improved by 9% in 2012 and expanded by 7.2% in 2013.

“Ghana’s economy grew by 7.2% in 2013 after improving by 9% in 2012”, he said.

Kwakye Ofosu explains that, pressure from outside sources caused inflation to rise from a high of 18.1% when power was restored in 2009 to 21% in March. However, under the NDC government, it was lowered to a single digit for 33 months, which has never occurred before.

“When power was restored in 2009, inflation was high at 18.1%, but external factors caused it to rise to 21% in March. But during the NDC government, it was lowered to a single digit for 33 months, which has never occurred before”, he explained.

He expressed that the NDC government produced cocoa for millions of thons, which had never been done before.

“The NDC government produced millions of tons of cocoa, which had never happened before,” he says.

He argues that, from 2009 to 2012, when Ghana’s economy was at its most successful, Mahama led the country’s economic management team.

“John Mahama led Ghana’s economic management team at the time when it was the most stable and successful”, he recounted.
