Ghanaians are heading to the polls today, Saturday, December 7, 2024, to choose a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a tight race between his vice, Mahamadu Bawumia and former President John Mahama.

Polls open at 07:00 in the closely fought election to decide the country’s new president as well as elect 276 parliamentarians.

Ghana’s two main parties, current ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), have alternated in power almost equally since 1992.

Voters started queuing at polling centres hours before voting commences.
