One person has died and another is currently receiving treatment at the hospital after supporters of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) exchanged gunshots at Nyankpala, 10 miles south-west of Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana.
Details are sketchy, however, Security Analyst, Adib Saani, narrated to Angel TV that the clashes that took place close to the Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), resulted a misunderstanding between the supporters which lead to the gunshots.
Police later issued a statement confirming the incident and and disclosed the arrests of four persons said to be linked to the shooting.
“The Ghana Police Service, has this afternoon, arrested four persons, namely, Majid Issah, Fodi Issiage Kamara, Yakubu Simalia and Alhaji Bashiru Mohamed, in connection with the shooting incident at Nyankpala in the Northern Region, which led to the death of one person and the injury of another.
“The injured victim is currently receiving medical care, while the body of the deceased is taken to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“The suspects are currently in custody and assisting the Police investigation,” the statement concluded.
