A devastating fire outbreak occurred at a scrap yard in Ashaiman, near the Tema motorway, on Monday, December 30, 2024, at approximately 12 PM, leaving several properties destroyed and many residents displaced.

According to Ahiabor Augustine, a reporter for Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) in Tema, the incident happened near China Mall. He reported that several containers in the scrap yard were burnt, destroying numerous properties in the area.

“The fire destroyed several properties, including about 17 shop containers and other assets worth millions of cedis; however, there were no casualties,” Ahiabor stated.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene shortly after the outbreak and battled to contain the blaze. Fire service officer Ebenezer Yenzu indicated that the cause of the fire is yet to be disclosed, as investigations are underway.

“We don’t want to rush to conclusions about the cause of the fire, but we can disclose where it originated,” he stated.

Mr. Yenzu further urged scrap yard dealers and companies to be mindful of changes in weather, as this can help mitigate fire outbreaks. “We urge residents to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents,” he added.
