Bagbin always prioritized NDC’s interests over national interest – Afenyo-Markin

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has lamented over the leadership style of the speaker of Parliament (MP), Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

According to him, the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration suffered greatly under the leadership of Alban Bagbin as speaker of the 8th Parliament.

He revealed in an interview on Adom TV that the NPP in spite of its slim majority in the house had to on most occasions sweat to get their policies through the august house due largely to how Bagbin as Speaker prioritized the interests of his party (NDC) over that of the nation and government.

Afenyo-Markin in the interview monitored by Angelonline.com.gh, said Bagbin always became a stumbling block for the Akufo-Addo administration.

“The NPP government in the last four years suffered in power. It has not been easy, from Kyei-Mensah Bonsu to even the time I took over, the Speaker never dealt with us in good fate. We really suffered greatly because Bagbin at all material times prioritized the interests of his political party over all other issues. He doesn’t look at national interests neither does he look like at the interests of the government…,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin who was not ready to divulge too many details of his dealings with Bagbin opined that the Akufo-Addo administration could have achieved a lot in it’s last term in government if Parliament was controlled a non-partisan speaker.

“Every leader goes to the grave with certain secrets and can’t even divulge them even in heaven when he’s questioned about it. That’s why I can’t reveal several details here…,” he said.
