A 23-year-old fisherman, Joseph Armah aka Asaa, has been sentenced to eight in labour for defiling a four-year-old girl at Chokor, Accra.
Narrating the facts of the case to the court, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei stated that the complainant, Paul Sackey, is a professional boxer residing at Chokor and an uncle to the victim.
The accused, a fisherman also residing in the same community. The prosecutor said on the November 29, 2024 at about 3.00pm, the accused spotted the victim playing around his area and gave her Ghs1.00 coin to go and buy biscuits with it.
When the victim brought the biscuits and finished chewing it, Joseph held the victims hand and took her into his room and pulled her pants down to her knee level and placed her on a mattress, inserted his penis into her vagina.
Chief Inspector Aniagye said, after the sexual act, the victim went home and the accused Joseph (fisherman) also went fishing at Apam.
When the victim got home, her mother saw changes in her walking and became curious and asked the victim what the problem was which she narrated her ordeal to her mother who subsequently called the accused to question him but he denied ever doing that with the victim.
A report was lodged at the Mamprobi police station and a police medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to hospital and report.
The accused was arrested and investigation caution statement was obtained from him. After investigation, the accused was charged with the offence.
In court on Monday, February 3, 2025, the trial judge, Dora Eshun, sentenced the young man to eight years imprisonment with hard labour to deter other wicked persons.
