The Ministry of Education has refurbished widespread reports suggesting that the government intended to scrap the teacher trainee allowances.

It explained that the claims stemmed from an interaction between the Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and the Executives of the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).

In a statement dated Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the Ministry said the sector minister remarked that the government is open to augmenting the financial needs of students in the colleges of education.

“To this end, he indicated that Government would seek to consider an enhanced loan scheme for students in this category, if need be.

In addition, the Minister was emphatic that Government would maintain the allowances until further deliberations and a firm agreement is reached with all stakeholders,” it said.

The Ministry urged media houses to verify information with them before publication to prevent unnecessary concerns among stakeholders.

The Ministry of Education reiterates its commitment to policies that support teacher trainees and education delivery at large.
