A staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections to its National Chairman.
The Tema West Chairman of the NPP believes that one of the key reason for their disappointing loss was the leadership of National Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim.
He asserted that Mr. Ntim’s weakness contributed significantly to the party’s downfall, playing a major role in their loss of power to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“We in the NPP believe we lost because our National Chairman was not strong. The government was stronger than the party,” he said on Angel TV on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
However, he clarified that this does not apply to the NDC, as they have politically experienced leaders.
“But in the case of the NDC, it is different because they have someone like Asiedu Nketiah, who has been an MP before and understands the system.”
He also criticized the handling of internal party matters, referencing the failed attempt to remove then-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
“So how did we call for the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta, but Akufo-Addo ignored it? In the NDC, that wouldn’t happen.”
He maintained, “When the NDC majority caucus decides to remove someone and calls on the president, he has no choice but to bow to that pressure.”
