70-year-old pensioner wanted by Court for fraud

A 70-year-old pensioner, Joseph Osei Frimpong, alleged to have defrauded a building contractor in the sum of GH¢32,000.00 has been declared wanted by the Dansoman Circuit Court.

Narrating the accused during the year 2022 at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region, with intent to defraud, did obtain the consent of one Eric Opoku Afuakwa to part with the sum of GH¢32,000.00.

The complainant in this case is Eric Opoku Afoakwa, a building constructor and a resident of New Bortianor also in Accra.

In the year 2022 the complainant wanted to travel outside the country and contacted the accused person who posed as a travel agent.

The accused person told the complainant that he could secure him New Zealand Visa at a fee of GH¢32,000.00. The accused person demanded GH¢5,000.00 which the complainant paid as initial deposit.

Three months later the accused person sent the complainant a soft copy of a visa purported to be New Zealand visa and demanded the remaining balance of GH¢27000.00. The complainant paid the said amount to the accused person.

The prosecutor said the complainant later found the alleged visa to be fake.

After some time, the accused person contacted the complainant and told him that plans have changed from the New Zealand to Australia. The accused person promised the complainant to secure him genuine Australian visa to replace the fake one.

On May 10, the case was reported which led to the arrest of the accused person. In his investigation caution statement accused admitted the offence.

The trial judge, Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasia, adjourned the case to February urging the police to make sure the accused is brought to the court.
