A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national communications team, Godwin Mahama Ayaba, has called for an investigation into former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum over alleged misinformation regarding the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show with Saddick Adams on Monday, February 17, 2025, Ayaba accused the former minister of misleading Ghanaians by claiming that 5.7 million students had benefited from the policy when in reality, the figure was closer to 3.5 million.
He argued that the discrepancy of 2.2 million students could be linked to ghost identities, raising questions about the misallocation of funds meant for those purported beneficiaries.
“The 2.2 million free SHS beneficiaries must be accounted for by the previous NPP administration. Whoever took part of the free SHS money into his pocket must account for it” Ayaba said.
He further stated that the NDC has consistently presented the true figures, estimating the actual number of beneficiaries at around 5 million, while accusing the NPP of deliberately inflating the numbers to deceive the public.
Ayaba insists that a thorough probe is necessary to ensure accountability and transparency regarding the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
