Ghanaian rapper and singer King Paluta has petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board, seeking an explanation for the omission of his song, ‘Makoma,’ from certain nomination categories for the 26th TGMAs.

In a letter to the TGMA on March 18, King Paluta stated that ‘Makoma’ was submitted for four categories: Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year.

However, when the official nominees for the 26th edition of the awards were announced, ‘Makoma’ was not shortlisted in any of the categories he applied for.

Paluta expressed confidence that his song met all moral and ethical requirements of the TGMA board and deserved recognition in at least one of the nominated categories.

“We humbly write to your honorable board to demand some explanations regarding the snub of ‘Makoma’ by King Paluta, a song we duly submitted for consideration. We believe it remains Ghana’s most popular song released during the year under review, generating the most excitement among music lovers to date,” the letter stated.

In the letter, King Paluta’s management acknowledged the competence of the TGMA board but urged them to provide a convincing explanation for what they described as an unpopular decision.

“We believe in the competence of the TGMA board and trust that a convincing reason will be issued to our team, music enthusiasts, and the general public regarding this decision,” the letter stated.

The management further indicated their willingness to engage with the board for a possible reconsideration of the song in the submitted categories.
