The Circuit Court in Accra, has granted bail to a 28-year-old driver, Samuel Issah Abdulai, who was arrested at his wedding ceremony at Nkawie in Ashanti Region.

The court, presided over by Justiced Samuel Bright Acquah, granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with three sureties in which one must be justified.

He is to report to the police once every week until the final determination of the case.

The accused was charged with four counts of defrauding with false pretence and forgery of documents.

The complainants are Obenewa Sarah, a trader; Matilda Ayaba, trader and Aisha Ahmed, a businesswoman all residing within Accra.

Facts

Samuel Issah Abdulai is a resident of Nkawie in the Ashanti Region. Between the months of September and December 2024, the accused person and his accomplice one Antwi posted advertising fliers on the internet soliciting for persons interested in traveling to countries such as Belarus, Andora, Albania and Malaysia for work. At that time accused person claimed to be in Belarus.

He was later contacted by the three complainants on different occasions and he convinced them that he could help them acquire various visas to the above mentioned countries.

Accused person then demanded and collected the cash sum of GH¢47,000 from first complainant, GH¢55,000 from second complainant and GH¢250,000 from the third complainant who collected the said amount from eleven other people.

Accused after collecting the monies via his momo number 0554852067 bearing his name, went into hiding.

Sometime in December, 2024, the accused person surfaced and sent some documents he claimed were electronic visas to the complainants via WhatsApp.

The complainants suspected foul play and started looking for accused person.

The complainants and other persons believed to be victims of accused person’s nefarious activities, arrested the accused at his wedding ceremony at Nkawie in Ashanti Region and handed him over to Teshie Police.

Further checks on the electronic visas at Immigration DFEC unit revealed that all the visas were fake.

The court was surprised when other women stormed the court to also report that they had been defrauded by the same Samuel Issah Abdalai.
