President John Dramani Mahama has named 72 individuals to fill vacant positions as Chief Executives of various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDCEs) in parts of the country.

These individuals will occupy 72 MMDCE offices in eight regions, representing the president at the district level. The validity of their nominations is subject to approval by the respective Assemblies.

The nominations were made by the President in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.

Out of the country’s 16 administrative regions, eight have received their share of the first phase of nominations. These include the Volta, Oti, Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Savannah, North East, and Western North regions.

This means that nominations for the remaining eight regions are expected in subsequent announcements.

To complete the current list of 261 at the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies, 189 more names are anticipated in the coming phases.
