Communication Team member of the Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman, has lauded President John Mahama for assenting to the bill to remove nuisance taxes, including the much-talked-about Electronic Levy (E-Levy).
He believes the decision by the President attests to his commitment to the promises made to Ghanaians while seeking the presidency during the 2024 elections.

Mr. Mahama assented to legislative bills on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, which scrapped the E-Levy, Betting Tax, Emissions Tax, and other levies.
It is in fulfillment of his campaign pledges during the 2024 elections that he would remove these taxes if elected as president.
Mr. Buckman described the president’s move as laudable and said it defines his credibility status.
“For me, the President has really done well by removing those taxes, and it shows a sign of integrity and credibility,” he said on Angel TV.
He added that unlike Mr. Mahama, who would have been criticized heavily for making uncomfortable decisions, he should be hailed equally for making good decisions.
“So, we have to commend President Mahama for being able to scrap these taxes. But as to whether his fulfillment is for show or just for the cameras, he deserves acknowledgement and not name-calling,” he said on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Mr. Buckman continued and asked members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop calling the president names, as they had no moral right to speak about the tax removal, given that their decision to implement the same taxes was insignificant.
“The government that was supposed to provide the youth with jobs but failed to do so, however, taxed the same youth 10% of their hard-earned money stake in betting wins. This made the government profit from the hustling youth.
“And the worst thing is that they did nothing significant with the numerous taxes collected from these unemployed youths,” he added.
According to him, “The numerous taxes under the Akufo-Addo government have never happened in this country.”
