The Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended a man with four identities, who is said to be kingpin of a vehicular theft syndicate operating across the country.

The suspect, Nana Anderson, a 37-year-old unemployed individual possessed identify cards with his image bearing the names Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis and Willson Kojo Bismark.

He is said to be connected with an ongoing vehicle theft and rental fraud scheme operating across multiple locations nationwide.

The accused was arrested on April 5, 2025, in a hideout at Atasemanso, a suburb in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

However, a second person in connection with the above, identified as Gideon Baah, remains at large.

Police say their investigations revealed that on March 25, 2025, the accused Nana Anderson contacted a car rental partner of the complainant and fraudulently rented a Hyundai Elantra with registration number GT 114-25.

Nana Anderson reportedly used forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards bearing the above names but with his photograph, deceived the witness into handing over the vehicle at Community 25.

The accused later failed to return the vehicle and disabled its tracking system, raising suspicions.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Nana Anderson was part of a syndicate that used similar fraudulent methods between January and March 2025 to steal multiple vehicles, including a Kia Forte at Hatso, a Honda Civic at Amansaman, and a Kia Ultima at Spintex, all in the Greater Accra region.

He received GH₵4,000 for each stolen vehicle, the police noted.

But upon his arrest, the accused admitted to the offence and led police to a location in Millennium City, believed to be the residence of Gideon Baah, the second person at large. However, Gideon Baah was not found.

The suspect has been arraigned before the Court as the case continues under investigation while efforts are underway to apprehend Gideon Baah, also known as Nana.

Meanwhile, the accused and Gideon Baah are alleged to have used the proceeds of their criminal activities to sustain their living expenses, with Gideon Baah reportedly paying the rent of the accused Nana Anderson.

Exhibits including forged documents, including multiple ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards, were recovered during the investigation.
