Kumasi Asante Kotoko has cautioned sports journalists over what it described as “unwarranted attacks” on their playing body following the team’s recent results in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghanaian football season.
According to the club, they find the disturbing pattern of the development deeply troubling, an orchestrated attempt by a small but loud section of the media, claiming affiliation with the club, to derail its season through baseless and unwarranted attacks.
Asante Kotoko observed that while it is no secret that the club’s management, technical team, and players alike are disappointed with their recent performances, coupled with the results.
“These calculated attacks on our players and coaches, disguised as analysis, are nothing short of an agenda to sow disunity and sabotage the hard work being done at all levels of the club.
“We view this as a direct threat to the cohesion and focus of the team, especially at a time when we remain firmly in the race for the double — a goal we set at the beginning of the season,” it said in a statement signed by the club’s Communications Director, Samuel Sarfo Duku, Esq.
The statement pointed to this “small but loud section of the media” claiming affiliation and emphasized that the club “will not tolerate any attempts, subtle or overt, to destabilize this club.”
“We will not hesitate to take on any media house or journalist whose conduct and reportage cross the line of professional ethics and descend into defamation and mischief.”
The Ghana Premier League leaders further expressed disappointment in a few known supporters of the club whose voices carry influence and whose duty it is to rally and unify the fanbase, but have instead chosen to lend credence to these divisive narratives.
“Let it be made abundantly clear that the club will not hesitate to take decisive action against any individuals whose actions undermine our collective interests.
“We remind all stakeholders that since our last defeat in Nsoatre under those bizarre circumstances, Asante Kotoko has not lost a game. The team remains focused, united, and motivated to achieve the targets set for this season. We will not allow detractors – whether from within or outside – to derail our progress,” added the Reds.
According to the Porcupine Warriors, it considers this criticism a genuine concern and reiterated that the club remains open to “constructive criticism” in their quest to improve the status of the club.
Kotoko thus urges calm and continued faith in the club from its loyal supporters to stay united and stronger.
