Over 70,000 passports uncollected – Okudzeto Ablakwa

Must Read

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that there are more than 70,000 uncollected passports currently at the passport office.

According to the minister, this development has been caused by frustration among applicants in the acquisition process.

Mr. Ablakwa, however, noted that the implementation of e-trackable delivery via courier across all 16 regions of the country will help address the issue.

“There are currently over 70,000 uncollected passports. Frustration makes many passport applicants give up. Our convenient e-trackable delivery via courier across all 16 regions of Ghana, which commences tomorrow [Monday, April 28], will end this nightmare. We are here to serve you,” he stated in a post on his X page on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Meanwhile, the sector will introduce chip-embedded passports beginning April 28, 2025, as part of new reforms and to also meet international standards, making Ghana one of the countries to attain this feat.
