A political commentator and leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addae Odike, says the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, exhibits excessive desperation to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the next election.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s remarks during his thank-you tour indicate that he is distressed about his aspirations to lead the party for the 2028 general election. He emphasised that the former Vice President is engaging in intellectual dishonesty.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, April 28, 2025, Mr. Odike argued that the reasons cited for the NPP’s defeat do not align with his explanations, claiming they are the root cause of their electoral loss.

He contended that the economy was the primary factor behind their defeat during his tenure in office.

Mr. Odike noted that Dr. Bawumia employed economic jargon in discussing how to address the economy; however, he stated that his policies yielded no tangible results, instead contributing to the collapse of businesses across the nation during their administration.

“Bawumia said what, arrogance of power? What he did has he forgotten it? He awarded contracts to Samira and his family, and these are not frivolous allegations.

“They were demolishing people’s buildings while failing to complete even one housing project.

NPP accuses NDC government of “fiddling” with anti-flood interventions as June 29 rains hit Accra

“Bawumia says what, E-Levy? Corruption that engulfed Akufo-Addo and Bawumia yet Bawumia did not address corruption.

“You cannot discuss the NPP’s defeat without mentioning corruption, Bawumia, you are too desperate to lead the NPP; listen and listen good,” he stated.

He added that Dr. Bawumia should focus on the policies he failed to fulfill, asserting that he should refrain from bringing up matters that do not favour him during their governance.
