The Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has said that the former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, appointed more Ministers than any government in the history of Ghana.

According to him, the number of appointees under Nana Addo surpasses those of other Western countries, including the United States of America and China.

He remarked that the combined appointees of the United States, China and Russia could not match the total from Nana Addo’s administration.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Mr. Nkrumah noted that the former president claimed he required more appointees to manage the country and revive Ghana’s economy; however, he ultimately failed to deliver on his promises.

He stated, “No government has appointed more political appointees than Nana Addo’s government; even the whole world, if you like, check the records, no government from the US to China or Nigeria can come close to his appointments, not even a quarter. During Nana Addo’s tenure, I conducted some research.

“When you add together the appointees from China, the US, and Russia, they cannot even come near a quarter of Nana Addo’s appointees; it is more than theirs.

“Nana Addo was, from the outset, in a hurry to solve Ghana’s problems, so he needed these people, but in the end, he failed Ghanaians.”

Mr. Nkrumah, however, commended former President John Dramani Mahama for significantly reducing the number of appointees in his government.

In his view, President Mahama has delivered commendably during his 120 days in office.
