Tension is mounting in Asawase in the Ashanti Region as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) grassroots reject Ben Abdallah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee for the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The grassroots opposition to Ben Abdallah Alhassan cites incompetence and a lack of leadership skills required to drive development within the municipality.

They further claim that the nominee is a stranger and, therefore, such an individual should not be imposed on the municipality.
“Who is Ben Abdallah Alhassan? We will not accept him because you cannot impose a stranger on us…” some of the agitated NDC youth stated.
In light of this, they burned lorry tyres to further express their disapproval of the President’s choice.
They are instead backing the Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Faisal Dawud, to be appointed as the Municipal Chief Executive. They argue that he possesses the requisite skills and experience to lead the municipality and drive development.
In contrast, there are other faction, believed to be from the camp of the nominee, who have welcomed the President’s decision, describing it as appropriate. They aalso extended their appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination.
