Gospel singer Mavis Asante has ignited a heated discussion in the music industry with her recent comments on collaborations between gospel and secular artists.
On March 7, 2025, in an interview, Asante expressed her reservations about featuring secular musicians on gospel songs, describing it as “noise.”
Her message collides with some gospel artiste who collaborates with some secular musicians.
According to her the term “noise” refers to the distortion or miscommunication of a message in mass communication.
“And to ‘noise’ I’m talking about when the receiver of the message is not really able to get the message right or something takes place,” she explained.
She questioned whether secular musicians truly understand the gospel message and its spiritual implications, asking….
“Does he even know what the gospel entails? Is his spirituality in line with the gospel artist?”she questioned
Also, she emphasized that music is spiritual and that being a Christian or attending church doesn’t necessarily mean someone understands the spiritual details of gospel music.
