From hustle to honor: Kwame Obed crowned next rated comedy act at Ghana Comedy Awards, 2025
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Rising comedian Kwame Obed has been named the Next Rated Comedy Act at the 2025 Ghana Comedy Awards, marking a major breakthrough in his journey from humble beginnings to national recognition.

Four years ago, Kwame Obed stepped onto his first stage with nothing but raw passion and a dream, a dream to make people laugh and to someday become a household name in Ghanaian comedy.

Today, that dream has taken a significant leap forward, as he has been named the Next Rated Comedy Act at the recently held Ghana Comedy Awards.

From the very beginning of his journey, Kwame has looked up to comedy giant OB Amponsah, drawing inspiration from his skill, composure, and ability to captivate any audience. That admiration came full circle when Kwame had the opportunity to perform at the Bukom Boxing Arena in front of over 4,000 people, a show hosted by none other than OB Amponsah himself. It was a defining moment in his young career, one that confirmed he was on the right path.

Kwame has graced stages across cities like Accra, Kumasi, and Ho, but it is in Accra that much of his comedic journey has unfolded. With performances at major venues including the National Theatre, Snap Cinemas, and Bukom Arena, he has steadily built a name for himself, one set at a time.

The road, however, hasn’t been without setbacks. In 2024, he was nominated for both Discovery of the Year and Student Comedian of the Year but left the ceremony without a win. Rather than deter him, those moments became motivation. He doubled down on his efforts, sharpened his craft, and committed to consistency.

Now, as an award-winning comedian, Kwame Obed stands as a testament to persistence, passion, and growth.

His recent win isn’t just a personal achievement, it’s a symbol of hope for up-and-coming comedians and creatives across the country.

To him, “this is not the final destination, but merely a milestone on a longer, greater journey”

With momentum on his side and a clear vision for the future, Kwame is confident that the best is yet to come. Ghana and the world should get ready. He’s just getting started.
