Volta Lake corridor to drive 24-Hour Economy – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has said that the proposed Volta Lake Economic Corridor will play a key role in Ghana’s 24-hour economy initiative, by becoming a major national production and logistics hub.

According to the President, the plan involves using over two million hectares of arable land around the lake, revitalizing the fisheries sector, and creating a chain of industrial parks to produce goods for both local and regional markets.

Speaking at a multi-sectoral meeting on the 24-hour economy policy at the Presidency, he added that the lake will be developed into a transport highway to move food, people, and goods more efficiently than the current congested road system allows.

He also noted that new floating access points and lake ports will be built, and long-term investment partnerships will be developed in coordination with the Volta River Authority and the private sector.

“One of its boldest proposals is the development of the Volta lake economic corridor, this corridor Centered on the Volta lake and the Volta basin, will become national production zone and logistics span.

He added that “the plan and visions captivating over two million hectors of arable lakeside land, revitalizing the fishery sector on the lake and creating a chain of industrial parks that produce goods for domestic and regional market”

He said in order to support the corridor, “the lake will be activated as a transport highway, moving food, people and goods more efficiently than our congested roads allow us to do currently”
