President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to strengthen Ghana’s cashew sector with the establishment of a Cashew Development Board and a new processing factory in the Bono Region.
According to him, the initiative aims to regulate pricing, improve market access, and create job opportunities while boosting local production and export potential.
The President, during his Thank You Visit to the Bono Region on Friday, May 30, 2025, stated that cashew is not just a crop but a livelihood for many citizens.
He explained that cashew puts food on the table for many family members, sends children to school, and fuels the rural economy. Yet, the industry has long lacked a structured policy framework to develop and grow.
Mr. Mahama added that his government will go ahead to establish the long-awaited Cashew Development Board.
“This board will oversee pricing, regulation, market access, processing, and research in order to give our farmers the break that they deserve.”
In addition, President Mahama explained that they are partnering with the private sector to build a cashew processing factory in the Bono Region.
He said, “By processing our cashew locally, we can create jobs and add value and keep more of the wealth within our region and so this is part of our broader agenda to industrialize agriculture and strengthen local economy.”
