A joint anti-galamsey operation led by the Mankranso District Police Command and the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly has resulted in the seizure of illegal weapons and excavators at Mpasaaso and Achiaase.

The special operation, which took place on Monday, June 2, 2025, targeted illegal mining activities that have been plaguing the area.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, several illegal miners abandoned their equipment and fled the scene upon sighting the approaching security team.

During a search of the mining sites, authorities recovered a cache of weapons and equipment, including; one 9mm pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition, four pump-action guns, twelve live BB cartridges, five live AA cartridges and five excavators.

The firearms and ammunition have been secured at the Mankranso District Police Command for further investigation, while the excavators have been impounded and are being held at the premises of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly.

The Regional Police Command commended the officers and stakeholders involved in the successful operation and urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting illegal mining activities.

“We urge the general public to support law enforcement by providing credible information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of persons involved in these illegal mining activities,” the statement said.
