Ghana’s former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has entreated the general public to be prepared for the implementation of more taxes under the John Dramani Mahama administration.

Expressing his disapproval of the GHC1 levy introduced on petroleum products, Dr. Bawumia slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration for what he described as deceitful tactics.

Parliament, on Monday, June 2, 2025, passed the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill — a new law that imposes a levy of GHC1 on every litre of fuel.

Dr. Bawumia, who addressed supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a thank-you tour of the Central Region, sounded an alarm to Ghanaians, cautioning them to brace for more taxes under the John Mahama-led administration.

“The NDC and their propaganda told Ghanaians so many lies every blessed day but we can all see their lies today. They have introduced something called dumsor levy meanwhile they had criticise the E-Levy we [NPP] introduced and scrapped it.

“This is eight times the E-Levy. So, today, if you buy fuel for Ghc1000, you will pay dumsor levy of Ghc83. Just prepare, there is more to come,” he warned, highlighting what he called the double standards of the government.
