President John Dramani Mahama says his government will soon ban the use of styrofoam, popularly known as “take-away” packs, to help reduce pollution and protect the environment.
According to him, styrofoam is one of the most dangerous pollutants. He explained that people often buy food in styrofoam packs and later dump them carelessly, causing harm to the environment.
The President says the government will ban the importation and production of styrofoam in Ghana, and promote the use of paper-based packaging for food instead.
Speaking at the World Environment Day celebration at Kwabenya, themed “One Child, One Tree,” President Mahama said he is officially informing manufacturers and importers that the ban will soon take effect.
