President Mahama swears in new Police Council members

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the members of the Governing Council of the Ghana Police Service, in accordance with Article 201 of the 1992 Constitution, with the Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the Chairperson.

The newly sworn-in members are: Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak; Minister for the Interior, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine; Minister of Justice and Attorney General, IGP Cristian Tetteh-Yohuno, Daniel Owusu Nyampong (Esq.), COP Rtd. Nathan Kofi Boakye, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Angel Lolo (Esq.), Rose Bio Atinga, and Benson Atongo Baba.

In his statement, President Mahama emphasised the importance of the Ghana Police Council in ensuring that the Police Service remains professional, fair, transparent, and accountable to the people.

He charged the Council to resolve issues related to promotions, seniority, postings, and general apprehensions that exists in the Service.

The President also stressed the need for the Council to promote discipline, justice, and respect for human rights within the Police Service.

He pledged his full support to the Council in the fulfilment of its constitutional mandate and urged all other arms of government and the general public to do same.

Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, in her acceptance speech, emphasised the solemn duty of the Council to the nation.
