Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has officially been sworn in as the Chairperson of the Ghana Police Council by President John Dramani Mahama.
The ceremony, held Tuesday, June 10, 2025, marked a significant step toward strengthening the country’s commitment to security, justice, and good governance.
President Mahama, while inaugurating the newly constituted Council, emphasized the importance of restoring the credibility of the Ghana Police Service.
He also pledged his full support to the Council, tasking its members with the responsibility of upholding integrity and professionalism within the force.
Professor Opoku Agyemang said in a statement following her swearing-in on her official Facebook wall indicated the council’s inauguration as national commitment to rule of law.
“The inauguration of the Police Council marks a renewed national commitment to the rule of law, integrity in public service, and the welfare of our security institutions.”
Accepting the appointment, Professor Opoku Agyemang described the role as a strategic and moral responsibility rather than a ceremonial position. She promised to lead with transparency and respect for justice, urging all Council members to work in unity and with a shared sense of purpose.
“This is not a ceremonial role; it is a moral and strategic obligation to ensure that the Ghana Police Service reflects the highest ideals of professionalism, accountability, and service to the people,” she stated.
She expressed her commitment to supporting the police in their efforts to protect the public and uphold democratic values.
“The road ahead may not be without its trials, but with collective wisdom and dedication, we will rise to meet the task and earn the trust of the nation we serve,” added Chairperson of the Ghana Police Council.
