The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its Presidential primaries for January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
This announcement was made by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, following the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the constitution review committee on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Accra.
In a related development, former Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Joseph Osei Owusu, will chair a nine-member committee to oversee preparations for the party’s national delegates conference in July.
The upcoming conference will serve, among other things, as a platform to consider proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
Mr. Koduah, however, clarified that the timing of the primaries does not require endorsement by the delegates conference, as the National Council exercised its mandate to approve the date.
“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries.
“Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place,” Mr. Koduah detailed.
