The Tema West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwasi Opoku, has kicked against the party’s decision to go for early congress in 2026.

Speaking on Angel Morning (AMS) with Saddick Obama, Mr. Opoku says he respects the outcome of the meeting by the party’s National Executive Council but he also disagrees with it.

“I respect the leader’s decision, but I strongly disagree with it. I believe it’s crucial for our party to engage in open and honest discussions about our direction and strategy, ” he asserted on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

He said rebuilding the party should be based on listening to dissenting views to help foster a sense of inclusivity and transparency.

“We must create an environment where members feel heard and understood, open discussion’s can help resolve internal conflicts and promote a shared understanding of party goals,” he emphasised.

He expressed hopes that leadership takes into account the diverse perspectives within the party’s ranks by engaging in respectful and constructive debate.

This, he believes, “can strengthen our party and better serve the people.”
