The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa Nsuaem, Ebenezer Cobbinah, in collaboration with the Western Central Regional Police Command and Blue Water Guards, led a coordinated operation against illegal mining activities at Essamang in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
The raid, conducted on Monday, June 16, 2025, resulted in the arrest of six individuals suspected of engaging in illegal mining.
Security personnel seized three pump action guns, a pickup truck with registration number GE-2527-23, and six pumping machines reportedly belonging to Castlepeak Mining Limited.

Speaking to the media after the operations, the MCE reaffirmed the municipality’s support for lawful and responsible mining activities that benefit the local community.
He emphasized the need for miners to possess proper documentation and operate within the framework of the law.
The Western Central Regional Police Command reinforced its position by warning that the region will not tolerate illegal mining operations, assuring that violators will be held accountable under the law.
Reacting to the illegal mining claims, a representative of Castlepeak Mining Limited whose identity was only given as Bot denied ever being involved in the act, noting that they practice responsible mining.
He explained that the company holds a valid mining license permitting operations across Essamang and nearby areas, including Dompim, Simpa, Kadadwen, Mile 8, Assougye, Dadiaso, and Nsuaem.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
