Mahama’s 24-hour economy will amount to nothing – Akyem Oda MP

Must Read

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has expressed his scepticism regarding the 24-hour economy initiative, suggesting that it appears more like a slogan than a well-defined strategy.

He urged Ghanaians not to fall for this concept.

Mr. Acquah made these assertions on Thursday, July 3, 2025, during an appearance on the Angel Morning Show (AMS).

He characterised the initiative as a nebulous idea that lacks the clarity and substance evident in the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

“The 24-hour economy was a slogan and a plan during his campaign and not tangible unlike the Free SHS,” he stated, emphasising the need for concrete policies rather than vague promises.

He further articulated that the concept of a 24-hour economy is driven by existing variables in a developing economy rather than being solely reliant on government policies.

“A 24-hour economy is run by demand and supply and does not need any policy before implementing, as they said with regards to their eight pillars, which clearly shows them throwing dust into our eyes.”

Mr. Acquah acknowledged that digitalisation is the way forward, particularly in an era where Ghanaians increasingly prefer streaming and watching movies on their phones rather than visiting theatres and cinemas for performances.

“The opportunity given to the state craft to display their show 24 will not work out, so they should forget about it,” Mr. Acquah opined.

He expressed doubt about the monetary figures being discussed, including the projected generation of 300 million as seed money and an additional 36 billion from private sectors. “There’s no reality in the monetary figures they are talking about.”

“We will vote at the end of the four years, and it’s too soon to tell,” Mr. Acquah concluded, leaving the door open for future political accountability.
