President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that 15,000 students have already received payment alerts under the government’s No Fees Stress programme, bringing relief to many first-year students in public tertiary institutions.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative on Thursday, July 4, 2025, at the SDA College of Education in Asokore, Koforidua, President Mahama revealed the significant progress made so far and urged students who are yet to sign up to do so quickly.
“One hundred and fifty thousand students have so far accessed the portal, and for those of you who have not accessed the portal, you better start doing so now. Out of this, thirty-four thousand five hundred have been validated and are awaiting payment. And out of that number, as at yesterday, fifteen thousand students have received their alert for payment,” President Mahama said.
The No Fees Stress programme is aimed at easing the financial burden on first-year tertiary students by covering various academic fees through direct payments. According to officials, the payments are being processed in batches to ensure thorough verification and avoid errors.
President Mahama encouraged students who are yet to register to visit the portal and complete their applications to benefit from the financial support.
