Ernest Kumi was warrior and a hero — NPP Women’s Organiser eulogises

The National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has paid a deeply personal tribute to the late Ernest Kumi, describing him as a son whose life embodied grace, humility, and strength.

Her tribute follows the demise of the Akwatia Member of Parliament (MP) who was affectionately known as ‘Akwatia Star Boy.’

In a Facebook post, she wrote “I have lost a son. It has taken me days to come to terms with this pain — to truly accept that this has happened to us.”

Madam Gyamfua recounted her first encounter with Mr. Kumi, describing him a quiet and sincere man who had approached her with political ambitions.

According to her, despite initial doubts, she saw promise in the deceased and offered him her fully support.

Their connection, she revealed, was cemented by an unexpected family tie with Mr. Kumi being a childhood classmate of her [Madam Gyamfua] daughter, Benedicta.

“From that moment, I knew he was meant to be in our lives,” she noted, adding that over time, she came to embrace him as one of her own children.

She highlighted the challenges Mr. Kumi faced during his political journey, pointing to the toll the campaign period had on his health.

“He never stopped believing. And he never stopped praying. He was a faithful servant of God,” she noted.

The tribute further acknowledged Mr. Kumi’s roles as a father and husband, with a special message directed at his surviving family.

“To Mavis, his dear wife, and their children — may the Lord wrap you in His strength and comfort,” she wrote.

According to the bereave NPP Women’s Organiser, Mr. Kumi was as “a light… a warrior… a hero to many.”

“The fight continues. And I will carry your memory in my heart, always.”
