Former Chairperson for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Hussein Ibrahim, has expressed deep concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) inconsistencies regarding the Ablekuma North elections, citing potential impacts for the election’s legitimacy.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, she highlighted the EC’s contradictory stance, noting that they had previously requested police security for only 4 polling stations in parliament, but now assert that a rerun is necessary for 19 polling stations.

“The EC is the same body who went to parliament to seek security for 4 polling stations, if they had used the word ‘rerun’ because they couldn’t get the pink sheets of those polling stations, I would’ve sided with them.

“But they stated they needed security so at what point in time did they add up 19 polling stations? That is the inconsistency I’m challenging and not because of either NPP or NDC,” she stated.

She criticised the EC for flip-flopping between different narratives, including what they told the public, their submissions to parliament and court instructions, and bow they’re altering their justifications from collation to a full rerun of the elections.

Hajia Hamdatu expressed her long-standing support for state institutions, especially the EC, even when they’ve been “bastardised” by both the two major political parties, but emphasized that she cannot back the EC’s current decision.

“I am someone who supports state institutions even when they’re being bastardised by the NPP and NDC but with this, I disagree.

“Whatever you do today, remember you will give account someday, I will not paint my face with hypocrisy because I am a politician,” she stressed.

She encouraged the EC to demonstrate consistency and integrity in their dealings, cautioning that failure to do so could disappoint the people who have supported them unwaveringly.
