Ghana’s film industry ‘wastes talents’ – Gloria Sarfo

Actress and TV personality, Gloria Sarfo, has criticized the local film industry, asserting that it fails to utilize talent effectively, particularly when compared to Nollywood films.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the actress expressed her concerns about the Ghanaian movie industry, stating that it wastes talents compared to its Nigerian counterparts.

Sarfo, who recently visited Nigeria to gain insights into their thriving film industry, noted that Nigerian actors work tirelessly, often shooting back-to-back projects without long breaks.

“They work like it’s a 9-to-5 job,”she observed.

She also criticizes the local film industry, stating it wastes talent due to lack of resources and planning. She notes,

“There are Ghanaians who have YouTube channels who produce movies back to back, they shouldn’t behave as if we don’t know what we’re doing, but rather if we want to do it right we need the right resources and plan for it.”

Gloria also highlights the disparity in sponsorship between Ghana and Nigeria, saying,

“Nigerians have people who sometimes sponsor these actors in movie production. But we Ghanaians don’t have anyone who can sponsor us, but rather these investors are looking forward to date these young girls who are trying to earn something for themselves,” she proclaimed

She further lamented that Ghanaian actors struggle to make ends meet without side hustles, unlike the Nigerian actors who seem to have more resources at their disposal.

“In Ghana, if you don’t have a side job like influencing, you can’t make it through the movie industry,”she added.
